About LBK
WELCOME TO LBK!
LBK is the student association uniting all students, both Belgian and foreign, at the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering at the KU Leuven. By organizing all kinds of activities and trips, we’ll give a boost to your social life! LBK is short for Landbouwkring, which means Farmers’ Association – that’s a relict from the time our faculty only provided agricultural education. However, we’re all still very proud of our farmer roots ;)
LBK has an international coordinator and an international workgroup, who specifically focus on international students: we’ll introduce you around the campus in Heverlee, we’ll organize activities specifically for international students, and we’ll translate announcements of LBK activities. Please visit the ‘contact’ section for more information about the international workgroup. We hope you’ll have a great time here and make friendship with other students, both foreign and Belgian.
LBK runs 2 places that definitely are worth a visit: de bar and the gnorgl. They are the ideal spots for you to have a great time with your friends or to get in touch with Belgian students!
DE BAR
’DE BAR’ is ideally located in the Kasteelpark Arenberg, close to all auditoria, which makes this place your ideal hangout after a lecture. Come around at any time of the day or evening for some coffee, juice, soft drinks, beer, soup… you name it, we have it! People come to de bar to play games, to have a lunch (you can buy sandwiches or bring your own), or just to hang around. De bar is open Monday - Thursday 9AM - 12PM and on Friday 9 AM – 7 PM. It is situated in a small building next to the river, not far from the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering. To find de bar, ask directions from someone at the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering or take a look at this map.
THE GNORGL
The ‘GNORGL’ is situated at Waversebaan 78, next to the Heverlee church and not far from Heverlee railway station. It is open Sunday - Thursday from 22PM onwards. The gnorgl is our night-time meeting & dancing place – THE place for a great party! Every night has its own theme, so depending on the moment, you’ll find people either chatting lazily or dancing wildly. In order to find the gnorgl, just ask directions to the church of Heverlee – the gnorgl is right next to it! |

THE CURSUSDIENST
Some professors ask LBK to print their lecture notes for the students. We sell these lecture notes in a place called the cursusdienst. If you need to visit the cursusdienst for a specific course, your professor will usually inform you about this. The cursusdienst is cheap, easy and very popular among students!
The cursusdienst opens at irregular hours. If you need to buy lecture notes at the cursusdienst, please send an e-mail to cursusdienst (at) landbouwkring.be mentioning your name, the courses of which you need lecture notes and the professors teaching them. Also, ask when you can come to pick them up. You will get a message back from our cursusdienst-coordinator telling you when to come around.
In order to visit the cursusdienst, enter the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering through the main entrance. In a corner of the main hall, there is a narrow and dark staircase going down. Take this staircase and proceed through the door at the end. You should now be in the corridor of the basement. Go through the door you are facing (on the other side of the corridor) - the cursusdienst is situated in this room.
